Vancouver School Photography – Montessori Preschool

Here in Vancouver school photography can often be cringe-worthy. When you force kids into fake smiles against fake backgrounds, you can certainly not expect the process to produce portraits worthy to be hung on the wall!

This Montessori Preschool decided to try something different. They explored the possibility of timeless and modern school portraits, but administrators wondered whether their parent community would like them.

The parents responded … loudly, and definitively, by achieving a 100% order rate! With little superstars like these, who were willing to play and giggle and make fart jokes with me, I was not surprised. These kids were simply wonderful. They were giving and kind and full of grace for the crazy camera lady!

It was once again such a pleasure to photograph siblings together at the school. And especially because it is not a service usually offered by traditional school photographers. Parents know just how hard it can be to get a decent photo of their kids together, right!! So I know what a gift it is to get that one sweet picture of both of them. The twenty other photos of them wrestling and squeezing the breath out of each other are pretty darn cute too!

 

Using a simple black backdrop really makes these kiddos shine. Actually, any solid colour looks great – have a look at the stunning results from this school who decided to use a simple white background. I picked up this great collapsible backdrop from Amazon, which is great to use even for people just wanting to take good portraits at home. You would however get a good laugh at watching me trying to fold this up!

What is Vancouver School Photography all about?

Modern fine art school photography is the opportunity to capture the personality and the spirit of each child, without awkward poses, cheesy props, and busy backdrops. I do that by photographing the child against a simple backdrop, in a fun, light-hearted environment where each kid can relax and be themselves.
